Urban Trek

With storms brewing and snow threatening Saturday past could have been the last nice day  of the year here in Anchorage. The sunny 40 degree day just screamed Get Out For a Hike!
Speed Way Single Track inside of  Far North Bicentennial Park was our destination. This park  is one of the crown jewels in the Anchorage Park system. Miles of multi use trails support everything from mountain biking to skijouring. It's not uncommon to round a corner and come face to face with a moose, or even a bear!

This Great Horned Owl likes to keep a watch on who is coming an going through the park. It blends in so well with the Birch trees that you can look right at it and think it is a piece of bark. When this photo was taken it was posing.
We connected with Speed Way on the east end just off Moose Meadows Trail. Easy 4 mile hike back to the Ball Fields.
Sunshine through the Boreal Forest on the trail.
