Sea Trials

Well Ohms had a massive motor company service. Part of it was to tighten every nut and bolt on the bike, and it said that right on the invoice. Yeah right, and they never updated Ohm’s GPS like I asked.  Ohm’s is going back to a fluid only change, diet for service from now on.

From looking at a tiny map book map, that shows the Seattle area as a mass of freeways, bypass freeways, and major roads I determined that if I went to Oak Harbor on highway 20 I could probably take a ferry to Puerto Townsend.  I even stopped in Oak Harbor got a cup of espresso and confirmed my plan with the barista, who said, “Just go down the road and turn right” Easy enough.

Just for fun I looked into Ohms GPS for ferry terminal and sure enough there is a Porto Townsend ferry terminal. I headed that way. We turned off highway 20 onto a secondary road that bordered the town of Coupeville. I thought for sure this was another GPS wild goose chase but sure enough at the end of the road was the ocean, and a ferry terminal.

Crossing The Strait of Juan de Fuca

At the terminal was what looks like a toll booth and inside the booth was a old fellow about my age dressed in a High Visibility vest. He said that I could indeed board the ferry and disembark on highway 20 in Puerto Townsend. Next we negotiated the price for the crossing. He started out somewhere around $4.00, but with being a senior, and only having two wheels we settled on a price of $3.80. I know the price is outrageous, but when you get to the end of the road and there is only one ferry, you are captive. Dang socialist Washington State Ferry System.

Since there was time to wait before the ferry arrived we turned back and investigated fort Casey that sits high on a bank overlooking The Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Admiralty Head Light

Eagles were soaring over the fort and chattering away in the trees. Several birders were watching a bald eagle in a tree that has unusual coloring.

The old cannons of the fort are being made ready  and are aimed at Canada. Probably to keep Canadians from sneaking into amerika to take advantage of our third world health care system.

We met up with a local WOW rider and had a great time wandering around Puerto Townsend. A great lunch at of all places Black Bear diner, and she took us around to see light houses, and troll haven.

Trolls and dragons are popular around here
