All week long you could see them lingering around town. Over
by the ulu factory or just walking around the bottoms. They were tourists, but
unlike the summer tourists who ride on the big white buses and all have
matching rain parkas, and name tags, these tourists had gear…
They came to town to be a part of the Iditarod. Some sponsor
mushers, some pay just to ride in the sled during the ceremonially start here
in Anchorage. But all love the race.
The race got underway for real today in Willow and will end
some 900 or so miles north in Nome
