I spent a couple of days in Cody Wyoming. I figured if it
was good enough for Buffalo Bill, then it ought to be ok with me.
The first thing I discovered about Cody is that they hardly ever had any covid. I got this information from the manager of the motor company t shirt outpost here when I stopped in to see if they had a switch for my electric vest. They did not, but according to the manager they had a great tourist season last year and only got covid in the fall, when one of the good ol boys that frequent the Irma, decided that he did not need a mask, and then everyone had it including her, and she and her co workers never wore masks unless tourists came in masked up and then they masked up until those CDC complying tourists left.
She also told me how she has allergies and is deprived of
oxygen if she has to wear a mask.
I was going to ask her if she got her medical degree in
virology at You Tube or trump university, but I figured that because she had
been oxygen deprived, from the times she was so inconvenienced, by wearing a
mask, that she probably would not remember. Oxygen deprivation can ruin your
memory.
2820 Covid cases in Park County since October 2020 and only 30 deaths. Not bad unless you are one of the dead.
The second thing I discovered is that there is a ATT store
there and that was a good thing as my phone picked Cody to have an overloaded memory,
slow way down, and quit opening some apps. I now have a high zoot Samsung that
will even let me plan a route and then upload it to Ohms, navigation system. And what could be better than having two
electronic devices that are capable of sending me on wild goose chases…
On Memorial day I took a ride out of town and discovered the
Heat Mountain Relocation Center.
Hear is the link to the official site Heart Mountain
The site was used for interning innocent Japanese Americans,
after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I was glad the site of this atrocity has
been preserved and I thought it appropriate to stumble upon it on Memorial Day.
Leaving Cody I got another short ride on the interstate
before turning south on 120 and that two-lane highway took me right to Thermopolis,
where I will be saying next week with my traveling compadre.
Today my stop in Thermopolis would be to find the post
office and send home the bulky rain jacket that I did not even wear the other
day in the all-day deluge. I kept the rain pants that I did wear, and the thin rain
liner jacket that works great under my jacket, so I am still protected for
rain, but I sure freed up some space in my bag.
At Riverton, the GPS wanted to take 135. I was skeptical of
this road because on the map it is a gray road, but I turned on it anyway, but
after I saw a group of Adventure riders going the other way I spun around and
went back on the road to Lander. On 287 way up in the high desert at Sweet Water
I stopped at a rest area and discovered that maybe my ancestors that traveled the
Oregon Trail might have passed through here.
