Two Atlantic crossings, and enough time on the Sky to trade recipes with the head chef, and now a couple of ship less days, and I can still feel the waves even when the van with no name is stopped.
I’ve taken to pulling on the hand brake, but more than once tonight I had to open the shades, take a look outside to make sure I wasn’t on the ocean or moving. I hope I don’t drown when next time I go out and put the wheel chock down.
My first night on the road staying at a RV camp really didn’t
live up to its web presence. The Ocala R V Resort must have used pictures from a different park. The fabulous venues
with entertainment, and food were decrepit, and taped off with yellow hazard
tape. My site had no picnic table, and
the sewer connection was to far away for me to use. The water and electric
worked, there was no wi-fi, but I got a discount for being a Good Sam Member.
My second night on the road I selected the Flint River RV Park This park has definitely seen better days. It is filled mostly
with live in RV’s. The fellow at registration who just happens to have exquisitely
manicured and polished nails on his left hand, but not his right, when I asked
about the washers, he said there was only one working washer and he was in the
process of installing two new dryers, but he didn’t think they would be done
today. I felt like telling him that if he had the parts I could install a dryer
in about a ½ hour, and I wouldn’t need to worry about the nails on either of my
hands. I didn’t I just figured I could do laundry at the next whisky bar.
Kinda by accident because I stayed at Flint River, I learned
that it gets cold in the south. Who knew? Now The Van With No Name has a
heater, and it’s been all fixed up by the dealer, and is ready to go.
The only issue is the controller for the heater, is a strange devise mounted over the door
And the instructions for this devise make absolutely no sense
to me. I have stood in front of this computer instructions in hand, twisted,
turned, and pushed the big knob, and decided next time I get service see if
somebody could show me how to work this thing.
It was 38 this morning in the van. Fortunately, I kept my Cunard slippers, cuz the floor was cold.
As I was brewing the coffee, I picked up in Lisbon I though what
could go wrong if I pushed the big button again. So, I did. There were symbols
of vans, fans, and gears. I clicked on the van, and something that resembled a thermostat
appeared, it was even in Fahrenheit. I turned the knob till 68 and left it
there.
Before I knew it fans that I did not know I had were running
and heat was coming out of the heat vents.
I felt so warm and toasty I ate my scrambled eggs off a real
plate, and as I rocked with the phantom ship motion I wondered if I will be
able to turn the heat on again????
