Traffic

Traffic was a band that formed way back in 1967

Mr. Fantasy

They made some good music back in the day, and some of their songs are still on my playlist.

Traffic in New York city is entirely different animal. It isn’t music but it could almost be choregraphed except that it is total chaos, and a way of life for New Yorkers.

We  used Uber from TWA to our digs here in Brooklyn the Best Western Coney Island. The distance is only 16.5 miles, and should take about 28 minutes, but it took us about a hour to get here, because of traffic.

Now our digs here at the Best Western are located in a unusual location for a hotel. From the airport you come in on the Kings Highway, past the train yard

Turning off the Kings Highway you turn onto Ocean avenue, past many auto repair businesses, some open some not.

Turning onto Ave Z is not too extraordinary, you can see the open door of the Ambulance garage. Once on 13’th you pass an active cement batch plant, a garage for short school buses, a couple of small maybe occupied houses, and then you encounter the Best Western Coney Island. The street ends at a gate for a parking lot, and across the street is a brick wall for another building possibly part of the train yard.

The hotel is clean, and quiet but it sure seems to be in an isolated spot.

The legendary Coney Island amusement park is only 1.5 miles away. A easy walk, even in the rain. The park however is closed for the season or closed because of the rain. No one really has a answer. Seeing it empty I think is really a treat, my traveling compadre would like to ride the roller coaster or the spin and puke, but it looks like she is not going to be able to do that.

We walked over to the New York Aquarium. The aquarium has recently been remodeled, and they have done a very good job of it. Probably the most specular exhibit is the shark tank.

Inside The Shark Exhibit

You walk into the tank and are surrounded by fish, on all sides and overhead. If you sit for a while, you can almost lose your prospective and think the fish are floating in the air along with you.

The entire aquarium is very well done and was quite enjoyable until more and more people showed up and they brought their screaming, running children with them. Maybe the nasty little humans learned something looking at the exhibits.

Jelly Fish

Our second day here our friend from Queens drove over in their car, picked us up, and acted as a tour guide, and extremely skilled relaxed driver.

He took us to Ghost Busters

Who You Going To Call?

Who knew that the fire station used in the film was here?

He took us to the world trade center. That stop didn’t hold much interest for me, but I did want to check out the old church, that I didn’t last time, I was here . The old church that was part of the city from Revolutionary war days.

St. Paul's Chapel

It's possible we might have been screened by the same  metal detector that was used on  George Washington and his men.

We stopped by Lily Park

Interesting Park Built Over The Water

We even did a drive by of Stonewall, the center of riots/protests by the gay community, way back in 1969.

Rainy Day In Manhattan

Our friend was a super guide, he even took us back to our hotel, about a two-hour ride in traffic, and then drove back to his home in Queens, another 1 ½ hour adventure.

Thank you, Richey you are the best,
