We spent a few days in
the twin cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. We visited with my traveling
compadres family, waited on a motor company outpost to order, and install the
new infotainment device on her motor bike, and we visited sculpture parks.
I did not even know sculpture
parks were a thing here, but on the way into town I spotted several shapes
through the trees, and the Lorraine Motel sign.
I thought it odd that
the Lorraine Motel sign would be in a field outside of Minneapolis, and when I
googled it later I discovered the Franconia Sculpture Park
The sign
was created by Chris Larson and built because
“This new Lorraine Motel
Sign continues a conversation of growth, emphasizing the connection of this
historical moment to the contemporary discussion of race, inequality and
violence in the south and the north.”
The Franconia Sculpture
park is large, several acres large, and has numerous large pieces, that mostly
are made from repurposed items
It
is just about as much fun, and features an exceptionally large spoon
Looking at works of art always builds up a appetite and after googling restaurants, and calling one to make sure it was open we discovered the Capital Grill in downtown Minneapolis
I
guess it is a chain but the steak I had was excellent. It was the steak I have
been wanting for a weeks. The service was excellent, and because of covid the downtown is still mostly deserted. We had the place mostly to ourselves.
Back
on the road with two powerful GPS units showing the path of the beam we skirted
around Saint Paul and connected with the Great River Road at Prescot Wisconsin.
The
Wisconsin side of the river is just two-lane country road, and a lot less
traffic that across the river on the Minnesota side.
Soon
we were back in our elements, riding motorbikes, and getting trains to blow their whistles.
At
Alma we climbed up on the lock observation deck and watched a small boat
traverse the lock. We had a decent lunch along the way. Scored 10 more points on
the H-D app for riding by a dealer and was in for the day in time to walk
around La Crescent Minnesota.
